Marianne's gift shop has undergone a major remodel and she now tells me it's "finished." It does look beautiful, and she's got quite a selection of fascinating things that are available. We'll be giving guests a $5 gift certificate for the gift shop, so everyone can have some fun.
We're going even more green. We've ordered the materials to put in a solar hot water heating system, and we're getting quotes on solar electric panels. And we've been replacing the electric landscape lighting with solar landscape lighting where ever possible. We've also converted most of our overhead spray sprinklers to drip, and we're working to get the entire property converted.
The hinge broke on the bottom oven and the door fell off. We're trying to get that fixed next week. I can't say that we'd recommend Viking appliances to anyone, based on our experience with this oven over the past few years.
Happy anniversary to Joel and Ruth. Chris and Lindsay celebrated a birthday with us. Todd and Jennifer escaped the cold in Michigan to spend a week in sunny California, and there were some "staycations" by locals Marc and De Ann and Adam and Shushan. We had a lot of Valentine's Day celebrants over the weekend, so Happy Valentine's Day to Ricardo and Cassandra; Maritha and Marc; Marco and Anita; Zachary and Sheena; and Louis and Lucinda.

Things are pretty slow, which is how we like it. Marianne finished work on her gift shop and has been organizing things like crazy. William is spending a lot of time in Sacramento supporting a project for the State of California. Regina has made the leap and is off living on her own, albeit with some on-going support while she's still in school. It looks like she might need an operation on her foot to get full use back after her injury. Will is doing well in school and enjoying his classes, especially the Philosophy of Religion class. Liz is still on deployment. She has a female roommate now and she's much happier.

Hints from "The Everyday Cook-Book," (c) 1889 and found in the Jamul Haven Angel House.
The Quinine Cure for Drunkenness: Pulverize one pound of fresh quill-red Peruvian bark, and soak it in one pint of diluted alcohol. Strain and evaporate down to one-half pint. For the first and second days give a teaspoonful every three hours. If too much is taken, a headache will result, and in that case the doses should be diminished. On the third day give one-half a teasponful; on the fourth reduce the dose to fifteen drops, then to ten, and then to five. Seven days, it is said, will cure average cases, though some require a whole month.

Jellied Chicken: Boil a fowl until it will slip easily from the bones; let the water be reduced to about one pint in boiling; pick the meat from the bones in good sized pieces, taking out all gristle, fat and bones; place in a wet mold; skim the fat from the liquor; a little butter; pepper and salt to the taste, and one-half ounce of gelatine. When this dissolves, pour it hot over the chicken. The liquor must be seasoned pretty high, for the chicken absorbes.
